Sinus Infection

A sinus infection (sinusitis) is the inflammation and swelling of the lining of the sinuses. These are located behind the forehead, bridge of the nose (either side), behind the eyes and behind both cheekbones. A sinus infection can be treated by a simple prescription of antibiotics however, where there is a delay in treatment or diagnosis the infection may be allowed to exacerbate causing further complications.

Types of Sinus Infection Injuries

Whilst it is the priority of medical professionals to promptly diagnose and treat sinus infections, their level of care can fall short of the expected standard, causing further injury. This can include:

  • Chronic sinusitis
  • Meningitis
  • Impaired vision

In some instances a patient or a loved one may require surgery (endoscopic sinus surgery) in order to improve their symptoms. Where due diligence and skilful technique is not exerted by the surgeon further injury can also be caused. This can include:

  • Perforation or rupture of nerve endings
  • Vision loss
  • Spinal fluid leak

If you or a loved one has been affected by a sinus infection error which has resulted in further injury, surgery or the exacerbation of a medical condition, Mistreatment may be able to help.
