Hospital fail to conduct scans in a timely manner resulting in Mr C needing complex surgery.

One of our panel member solicitors recovered £30,000 for Mr C in connection with negligent treatment he received from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. He attended the hospital’s A & E department on two occasions complaining of an injury to his right wrist.

It was not until his third attendance that x-rays were taken and he was diagnosed as having a fracture of the  scaphoid bone in his right wrist.  A CT scan revealed a persistent fracture gap across the scaphoid waist, consistent with non-union.

He underwent open reduction and internal fixation with ilio-crest bone graft.  The fracture failed to unite and he underwent a non-union procedure with vascularized bone graft from the palmar radius.  Notwithstanding these procedures, he was left with non-union of his scaphoid.
